BBC apprenticeships 2027: your next step could be behind the scenes

From making content to coding iPlayer: explore paid BBC apprenticeships in London and nearby towns, the key eligibility checks and how to make your application count.

Ever watched a BBC programme, listened to a podcast or opened iPlayer and thought: I could help make that? This is a good moment to find out how.

The BBC has opened applications for apprenticeships starting in September 2027. We've checked the original adverts and added the relevant London and nearby opportunities to Steve's Jobs. These are paid, fixed-term roles with learning built into the job — a way to develop your skills while working on things people actually watch, read and listen to.

Your first job could be behind the next big thing

You don't have to want to be on camera. A programme needs people who organise the production, build the technology, understand the audience, look after the business and tell the story. The BBC's current adverts cover all of those routes.

There are also verified placements in Elstree, Reading, Dunstable, Cambridge and Tunbridge Wells. Check the actual base and travel expectations before choosing; some adverts offer London or Salford options.

The dates and details that matter

The adverts checked on 4 November 2026 close on 24 November 2026, for September 2027 starts. The BBC's campaign warns that closing dates can vary, so use the individual advert as the final word and give yourself time to apply.

Most of the London adverts show a salary of £24,650 plus £5,441 London weighting. The Level 6 BBC News journalist advert shows £26,000 plus the London weighting. Amounts vary by role and base: don't assume that the same weighting applies to every location. The original adverts and our listings show each role's stated pay, contract length and requirements.

These are full-time apprenticeships. The adverts describe a 35-hour working week, with some roles requiring flexibility outside normal hours and travel for learning blocks. Completing an apprenticeship doesn't guarantee a permanent BBC job; the adverts describe support for finding your next role afterwards.

Check your route before you fall in love with it

The BBC requires applicants to be 18 by the September 2027 start. The Level 2 Administration Assistant scheme specifically requires you to be aged 18–24 on 7 September 2027. Being old enough to use Steve's Jobs doesn't automatically make you eligible for every scheme.

The adverts also require three years' continuous UK residence before starting, eligibility to work full-time in the UK throughout, and no other apprenticeship running at the same time. Qualifications differ: software engineering asks for coding experience; data analysis asks for A Level/Higher Maths; degree-level data science and engineering have their own UCAS and subject requirements. Many routes are aimed at non-graduates or restrict previous qualifications in the same subject. Under-19 Maths and English completion rules also apply to several schemes.

Some posts are marked EXTEND. Those are specifically for applicants who identify as deaf, disabled or neurodivergent and meet the advertised disability definition. We've kept that condition visible in the listings.

Give your application something real to say

Pick the role that fits your interests and evidence, then read the whole advert. The BBC asks candidates to apply to one vacancy, so compare the options before submitting.

You don't need a glossy story about already working in television. Think about a real example: a video you edited, a coding project you kept improving, a school event you helped organise, a story you researched, or a part-time shift where you solved a problem. Explain what you did, what you learned and why that connects to this particular team. Never claim experience you haven't had.

The adverts say you apply online by creating a candidate profile and answering questions; a CV or cover letter isn't required for these applications. Take time over those answers. Show why the work interests you, rather than simply saying you love the BBC.
